My kids aren't of bike riding age yet but I'm torn. I agree with let them be kids and no helmets but I also done want something to happen that could be prevented.

Mine did when she was young but not as she got older. They didn't have bike helmets when we were kids and we learned how to ride without cracking our skulls.

My wife races and wears a helmet when racing and training.

If I have a kid I will make them wear a helmet.

Cause it's good safety and because they likely inherited their mother's clumsy as hell genes.

Although...i never wore a helmet as a kid growing up either and somehow managed to never crash...until I was an adult.

I don't think need a helmet to ride around the neighborhood. I never wore one.

Going on tough trails, public roads, etc. is different.

Yeah I would be more forgiving on this. Especially if the neighborhood didn't have a ton of traffic through it.

See, me too. But looking back at the shite we used to do, I'm amazed that me or any of my friends didn't wind up dead or worse.

Gotcha. The comatose...being a veggie thing would be horrible.

The delimbed thing would suck...but nowadays not so much due to all the modern advances with prosthetics.

Mine wear helmets on 4 wheelers of course, but bikes no way, I feel that's a bit much.

I don't really mind trying not to make your kid wear a helmet. It's just when parents won't allow their kids to ride on a bike through their perfectly safe neighborhood at all. Them wearing a helmet isn't detracting from their fun, while some parents are so obsessed about safety they try to keep their kid from doing really anything that is fun.

Though they were always given a helmet with their bikes, we never required them to wear one tooling around the neighborhood.

I really didn't want to raise kids that just see danger everywhere. Be a kid. Go have fun.

Seems to have worked out.
