re: Where was your first job, and how old were you when you started?

I may have been 12, I kept score for a men's Sunday morning softball league somewhere off of clearview by the Huey P Long bridge.
10 bucks a game 4 games. 40 bucks every Sunday for about 4 hours of work. Not bad when you are 12

Since we have a farm/ranch/large property, our kids/grand-kids start working at about age 4. (Just as I did) It is totally their choice to work.They beg to work with us. Pecan season is a fun and profitable time for all. The kids are well paid.

The kids (age 4-8) are great at clearing sticks under pecan trees so the picker can run without hitting sticks.

At about age 5-8 they can work the cleaning line. It's a conveyor belt where the machine picked pecans go down the conveyor belt line and we hand pick the bad pecans, clumps of dirt, sticks, and the occasional frog or snake.

Our kids love to work and help so we always find a way for them to participate. They run and play a lot but then get busy working so they can make money and they are so proud of their work.

Building a work ethic and pride in doing a good job and helping the family starts early in this family.

15 years old, Walgreens. Was a very nice job and held it for several years through the first couple of summer in college. Great times.
