Roosevelt is nice. I was married there. It is close to Grand Central so you have access to green and blue lines, and can shuttle over to Times Square and the red lines.

Drew, you may as well move up here.

Dude I'm glad you showed. Need recs on places to go again.
Short list is: PDT/criff, death and co, little branch, mcsorley's...

I almost did before my career change. Had an internship up there.

Trying to convince the parents to do a VRBO in your neck of the woods. They're hesitant because all the shady frickers that do the bait and switch or operate illegally.

Hit up The Jade. Smaller, boutique hotel. Close to any train you'll need, walkable throughout the village and up to Madison Sq.

If you like a little more modern, give the Bowery Hotel a look.

Can anyone tell me if it's safe to walk from the Park Avenue/Lexington area to Times Square at night for 2 females (myself and my dtr). Ok with not staying in TS but concerned with safety walking/subway at night for us.

you will never be or feel unsafe in midtown at any time of day.

OP, add artichoke to your list if you haven't been there yet.

Yes, it is safe.

Taking the subway late at night requires some caution. You want to avoid lonely platforms. Taking the sidewalks is safer IMO.

The Marquis in TS is awesome, I also like Double Tree in TS if you're going with a crew. Stay away from the restaurant there though. It sleeps 4 easily. The Bentley in the Upper East Side has a cool suite with great views of the river/FDR bridge. Essex house overlooks Central Park, the service kind of sucked, but the hotel was almost worth it. The Warwick and Park Central are nice and located between Central Park and TS. The Roosevelt, tiny rooms, busy as hell...way down the list in my opinion. Alas if you can swing it, The Plaza. Make sure to bring a pair of cargo shorts and you're favorite "hang around the house", raggedy assed t-shirt and stroll through the lobby/restaurant. It will freak the rich folk out.

Read this thread up to the present. Someone mentioned the Parker Meridien and their Burger Joint. I opened and worked at the first free standing one, on 8th btw 5th and 6th. Same burgers, slightly cheaper, and has a bar.

Hotel wise, I'll add the Westin on 42 just off of 3rd. Close to GCS and has a great hotel bar, LCL.

I agree that the more south you are in the city, the more fun. But if you find yourself on the UES, I work at the Supply House on 2nd btw 85 and 86. Be an LSU fan and I'll get you a round.

Last trip I stayed at the Roosevelt. Nice historic hotel and very convenient to Grand Central as you said. From Grand Central one can go just about anywhere in NYC.

I go several times a year and spend a night with gal pals seeing shows. Unless I'm with an out-of-town friend who wants to see things all over the city, my reason for being there is Broadway so I stay right in the Times Square area. Even though it may be safe to walk long distances late at night---especially if you're a guy--- women have a different mindset about walking at night for good reason. The avenues stay very busy and are not worrisome to me. The cross streets however, are sometimes very quiet late at night. There are many dark doorways and always construction scaffolding or plywood sidewalk "tunnels" . I don't mind walking the avenues late at night but I am not comfortable on the streets. And no to the subway late at night either...I'm ok with the subways during the day especially rush hours when you have a lot of business people with you.

Might be switching from the Hampton inn on 39th street to the one on 24th instead(Chelsea location) because I'd rather stay there than Times Square. After looking into the hotel though it seems that there are several reports of bed bugs at the Chelsea location. Although most reports were back in 2011 it has me a bit nervous to stay there. Especially since the 39th street location doesn't have any reports. Not sure where to stay.
