Anyone got any recommendations for a good public course for not a ton of money? Preferably close to Lake Travis.

What do you consider "not a ton of money"?

Kind of off topic, but do yall still have huge nets in certain places over parts of holes there to catch deer?

Palmer Lakeside, but if the OP is looking to not spend a lot, then that's not the place for him.

Falconhead would prolly be the best bet.

Yes. I was there for a wedding not long ago, near lake Travis, and saw nets over parts of the rough where they HOA was netting white tail and sending the meat to processors, which was then sent to Mexico supposedly.

Ha! I've played at just about every course around here - and I've never seen that.

That said, Crystal Falls had some serious issues with wild pigs a few years back, and there were a few traps around. Hell, I think they had a hunt one night...

We have 2 decent courses in Lago Vista. Check out Lago Vista golf and Highland Lake Golf . Yes you have to dodge the deer . Its about 20 minutes west on 1431 out of Cedar Park . Our little slice of Heaven .

It was before the wedding when I saw the nets.
Wedding was at some movie production place where they filmed parts of "There Will Be Blood."

Had a nice view at the reception.
