Honestly, this is a hidden gem if you like the city life but still want to feel isolated.

the Base in Beeville is a prison now and the town has grown considerably since then so it might be a little better.

I dated some poor chick who lived in old base housing. It’s apartments now. Beeville still sucks. Their biggest attraction is a WalMart.

El Paso is pretty nice. It gets a bad rap from folks scared of it being close to Juarez but Juarez is also pretty nice if you ain't looking to get into the drug trade.

There was a huge boom in bases and air fields down there for the war. The big ones were CC Naval Air Station, Naval Air Station Kingsville, and I think Chase Field in Beeville was a big one too. In Corpus alone there were 5 or so didn’t air fields outside of the big base.

Even in 73 with Viet Nam winding down, we were still pushing a lot of student pilots through. Our squadron had around 70 aircraft. There were two other squadrons, though not as big. We had a separate tower just for aircraft movement on the ramp. First turn up was around 6am and usually the last shutdown was around 11pm. Hot fueling and swapping students was normal. It was long days for many.

Of the places I’ve been, it’s midland and I’ve never been there for more than 48 hours at a time

Now, that's a bit of a stretch . You won't get kidnapped by the cartel but most of Juarez is a shithole.

The outskirts are great. Living close to downtown was fun at first but it got old quick as its extremely overcrowded and I-35 is a perpetual parking lot. I moved to Cedar Park and am much happier living up here. It's quieter and having to occasionally take 183 or Mopac when heading downtown beats risking my life on I-35.

Have you ever used the commuter train that goes to downtown?

Celeste, Texas

If you are from out of town and there after midnight, the Celestians will dish out an arse whipping.
