Much improvement there. Have you been lately? Looks whole lot better than when I arrived. I wished 17 years ago I had jumped on some property north of campus. Getting better every year. And gonna be more desirable and be more valuable to the youthful than the crank/meth producing hinterlands of the surrounding parishes.
Amen. BR will never be NOLA, or Austin, or insert-whatever-cultural-mecca-of-the-moment, but if you don't think the city had massively improved in the last 10 years, you are being willfully ignorant.

Moving back to New Orleans soon, don't care.

Start packing.....
I'm already out after turning down some offers to stay in BR
The flight will continue to Houston and Nola

Sign it. It won't happen anyway. 100+ thousand people and st g backers cant get 18000 sigs by now? When conservative friends of mine are skeptical that's something. They know as most people do it isn't about the schools. That said, we are all for better schools. Not just the st g peeps.

Packed up in 2008. SO glad I left EBR. It was going to hell when I left... I assume they have finally arrived?
I assume you live in Chicago? If all I did was believe the misinformation about that city in the press I would never have gone there. Fortunately for me and my wife we make up our own opinions after visiting a place. Beautiful city. Two of our best vacations ever.
Just like people would say sheepshead are nasty. I used to bounce those bastards off rig pilings. Then, fishing on my own, I secretly kept one and fileted it. That some good shite.
All the misinformation from the st g peeps about the doom and gloom conditions in BR are just hot air. Great place to live.
I assume you will be hating Chicago soon. Cause just like unhappy people who have to move they eventually figure out its they themselves that are miserable. Not the city.

I really hope this is true.
My kids do not go to public school and I would never send to an EBR public school.
Whatever happens with this st George thing, I hope one day that the schools around here will not be so god awful

BR isn't the cesspool you doom and gloomers keep saying it is. Go to Alex Box this weekend. Show me the cesspool. Show me all the unhappy people.
LSU is basically it's own city...and that area is next to a dump also.
Baton Rouge is a craphole that Scruffy never plans on moving back to.
Plus your traffic sucks.
Posted on 4/24/14 at 6:19 pm to Scruffy
Notice he said Alex Box, an LSU Athletic Department entity, and not campus itself. The Athletic Department is fully self sufficient. What a turrible example.

I know a lot of you retards hate the revitalization of downtown BR for some reason, but y'all can't deny things are vastly improved in that area. I'm not saying BR will ever be some cultural hotspot or international travel destination, but I'm happy with the improvements.
Posted on 4/24/14 at 6:26 pm to Sun God
Scruffy never said he hated the revitalization of downtown BR. It's existence doesn't negate the fact that the rest of BR is a dump that won't be improving any time soon.

lol. Have you been lately? I still wouldn't walk around that area at night. No way. Around Chimes? Sure. I wouldn't be caught walking around past Weinerschnitzel though.
I honestly haven't heard anyone say they're happy about Baton Rouge in a long time. They just complain about crime moving into their area (Shenandoah area specifically). The public education is a joke, the traffic is over the top, no one seems to have a good story about the police, and nothing notable seems to be done about it. Some areas are getting revitalized, and that's great. I feel there are bigger problems than the amount of people that hang out in downtown Baton Rouge on the weekends though.

As an outsider who came to BR for college during the revamp, I have enjoyed the improvements, but it is sad that it took this long for BR to see any improvements. Also, the school system is complete and total dog crap, do not kid yourselves there. That deters more people from moving here than any Shaw Center, North Blvd. or River Center could hope to attract. I now work down in St Gabriel and moved to Denham to escape the BR crap. Too much violence, traffic, and city paid ticket writers for my liking. I do not even go much to LSU events because BR is such a nightmare. If you love your city, I understand, but there are much more appealing options elsewhere and I am going to explore those options as soon as my wife finishes school at LSU in 3 weeks.

I've actually lived in New Orleans, Houston, Memphis, and BR. BR has a ways to go the get to #3 on that list of nicest place to live.
BR will always be special to me. I lived there for 10+ years and my parents live there. Comparing it to major cities is laughable though. Even Atlanta is better
And downtown BR has gotten way way better. I'm not necessarily for St. George, but I do think they should get to govern their own schools. Hopefully the improvements between LSU and downtown actually happen
Houston and Nola traffic > Baton Rouge traffic
