Really think they need extra work?

Absolutely. I took on any extra work I could get when I was framing houses. What makes you think they wouldn't want to do side jobs?

I may pick up a couple Home Depot parking lot baws to help me build a deck. What is the going rate for a days worth of work? I know they’re a cheaper option, but I also don’t want to be a dick and short change them.

I have a buddy that rents out a few houses. When paying people on the side, he pays $15 an hour. I'm not sure what the going rate is, but at least that should give you a starting point.

When was the last time you tried to get a house framer to do a side job? SIL is a contractor and has to turn work down due to too much work out there.

Oh, it's like that everywhere in BR area.

Never have. I can do it all myself. I was on a framing crew for 5 years and we all did side jobs to earn extra money. These guys aren't making some shite ton of money.

How long ago you did framing? The last 5 years, to find a real framer has gotten hard to find. Starting pay for a good one with tools is costing around $27 a hour to start now.

It's been about 15 years. When I moved on, I was getting $14 an hour which was pretty good comparable to what other guys were getting. But, you don't need one of the top guys to build a deck or something simple like that. Our crew started out paying $8 an hour and after about 6 months on the job, I could build a lot stuff on a smaller scale.

Like I said, last 5 years the price jumped big time. Those guys have all the work they need and then some.
