re: when you think of the south what is the first thing that comes to mind

Warm weather, tasty food and pretty women.

Just the thought of living outside of the south, constantly hearing Yankee accents and eating bland food make me cringe.

The south has great food but it's not the only place in the country that has great food. As far as accents, there are a few that I find grating ( Boston, Philly, Wisconsin) but a lot of places have pretty neutral accents, like the Mountain West and the West Coast. I know those aren't considered the North but still.
