most school systems have already announced the school year is over and will start as scheduled in the fall.

Nobody is going to announce until the state does for public but everyone is expecting that announcement in April.

Iberville.. has announced it is closing for the remainder of the school year and that there will be no graduation ceremony or prom. West Baton Rouge has done the same thing.
good thing a couple of scholastic juggernauts like these two have decided the kids have spent enough time not learning anything to just call the whole thing off. I'm sure all those children will find rewarding careers at a plant or driving cane trucks during grinding season.

Okay smartass. I should have been more specific. It isn't official yet, but this is information coming from local governments.
So when all schools in the state announce they will not continue this year are you going to say the same thing?

Which school boards in Louisiana have announced this? The link you provided was not your friend. When you say most, it is presumed that you mean it is a majority of school boards.
I defer to your knowledge as an Iberville parish school parent, but I don't see anything on their website Iberville Parish School Board LINK nor twitter that says they are closing Iberville parish schools for the rest of the year. I would think that would be on their homepage. Ditto with West Baton Rouge schools with their only announcement being that school will start after Spring Break on 4/20 instead of 4/13.
I am taking you for your word when you mentioned that
quote:
Lafayette Parish has said teachers and staff are being asked to be flexible with their schedules as this situation develops.
My read on this statement is that teachers & staff might have a finish date past May 28th (Laf. Parish) to make up for lost time which would mean an abbreviated summer break/school. They might have to offer longer summer school hours and/or use include weekends.
Kanas announced last week and Virginia today that the rest of their school year is canceled. If the nation gets the all clear soon, I expect that they will have to walk back those closures since what are dual income or single income/single parent households supposed to do with 7 year olds while they go to work? Leave them at home by themselves?

yes. Although maybe not verbatim. Iberville and WBR public school students are some of the most pathetic in the state. If ever there was a group of kids who need all the classroom time they can get, its these. But apparently the administrators said frick it. I'd fault them for the decision, but I've been around some of those kids and I'd cut my losses if I were the school administrators too.
