There is a "I miss Murphy's" Facebook group. Look it up and enjoy. It was infinitley better than your college bar experience.

Is this what we used to call Tigertown? Don't know ,I remember the Bayou being a cool bar. They would let you pick out your own music, from about 1000 records. Had some cool graffiti in the restroom, until idiots started covering over with gang BS. Then it burned.

1997...that was my freshman year. And they were built for me.

And an incoming freshman should say the same. Tigerland was built the year you walked into the door. Thats the way we all feel.

How come no one ever mentions the varsity in these LSU nostalgia threads?
Because the Varsity was a movie theater.

There were also a lot of others that came and went...Snorkels II, Senior Frogg's...my memory is really fading here, but I vaguely also recall the Goalpost, Ernie's, etc...

They officially changed the name (and the sign) when they got a cease and desist letter from the mag's lawyers. It had been named that for at least 10 years, though.

I heard a similar thing happened to Heisman's, but I don't know if it's true or not. They only used the name Heisman's for like a year.

Didn't the Sports Illustrated name get shot down because the guy who was writing the infamous "Crazy Days at LSU" article for SI (about Dale Brown) drove by and saw it?

I remember I saw fraioli in wal mart one time with his kids....it was like seeing a wild animal in an unfamiliar environment. It was just weird to see him somewhere besides the bar.

Saturday two weekends before I got married, Marc set me up with shot after shot after shot. Was supposed to pick up the future wife at 8 or so.

Came too at 4 am in a very strange place.. Have never had Jaggermeister since.

Murphy's Dollar call night on Wed nights was legendary. Christmas in July, free jaeger shots, cheap beer, crazy fights where everyone was so drunk they didn't feel it until the next day, BRPD bringing in the K9 squad many times when the fights took over the parking lot, stumbling over to stand in a line going well out the door at Louie's at 2am, new sorority pledges showing up like sheep to the slaughter, party gravy, and that Murphy's smell, it just stayed in your clothes.

I never went to Murphy's, because I was a GDI. But I was a big fan of the Bengal and the Bayou. And I went to the Tiger a lot because my friends were fans of the place. I remember going out to the Tiger with a roommate at the end of one semester; we might have had $20-$30 between us. Someone told us the best way to get fubard on the cheap was drinking Three Wise Men. We ended up throwing up in the same toilet at the same time. Good times!

Anyone from the early 90s remember when Sports or the Tiger would do drink specials based on how Shaq did in big home games? Like if he scored 15 in a game draft beer was $2. He scored 20, draft was $1.50. If he got 10 rebounds, well mixed drinks were $2. The Reveille would run these half page ads, breaking down the specials
