If it's something that has true personal meaning to you and isn't openly displayed in the workplace...fine I have no problem with it.

Very few tattoos qualify for that however and I immediately think you have bad decision making skills and impulse control when you show one off that doesn't.

I love that it has become such a huge fad. It's like watching countless people grow permanent afros and put on non-removable pairs of skin tight bell bottom white pants and sequin shirts. They'll look really stylish in 50 years.

I love how judgmental this place has become over the years

Also, tattoo removal isn't as difficult as it once was.

we auto-balled anyone with a tattoo

Don't know what "auto-balling" is, but I'm sure it's unapologetically conformist.

But it sounds gay as shite.

then, why are they always showing them off

Because a large segment of the population likes them - even if they are afraid to get them. My wife hates mine - but even she will tell you that rarely do we go somewhere without someone I don't know randomly coming up to me and complimenting my artwork.

And it's not about whether or not you like them, it's about being afraid to get one even if you did like them. It's that fear and motivates the hate. You hate that there are people out there bold enough to live their own lives.

but, if they don't care what people think, it seems silly to show them off.

Who shows them off?

By the way, do you hang your art in the closet or where everyone can see it?

You've had random people walk up to the street and show you their tattoos? Or did you have a friend show you his thinking you'd like it, and you complimented him so now he's going to show you his next one because he thinks you like tattoos? What I consider my best tattoo is almost always hidden by my shirt sleeve.

How bout another angle here: what about someone that wants tattoos and gets them where they can be covered up by almost every article of clothing?

Seems the big deal nowadays is still limiting one's self from potential employment opportunities so what about those that consider this when choosing locations?

no need to beat this horse any more.

my biggest question has always been. why do people get tattoos where they themselves can't see them? like the back of the neck?

And just because art is meant to be displayed doesn't mean they got the tattoos because of what others would think.

I wonder this as well. You have to have plastic surgery to get your earlobes looking remotely normal after you take the gauges out for good.

What about them? I wouldn't have any problem working with someone, employing someone, or recommending someone for employment, who had hidden tattoos. So, from a professional perspective I don't think there'd by any issue whatsoever.

I find that I don't have a ton of friends who have tattoos, even hidden ones (I have two... that I know of). But that's not a conscious decision in my part at this point.

I have friends who do this.

I find that this board makes massive deal about tattoos. Which I guess has something to do with being in the deep south. Tattoos being taboo isn't as bad as it once was.

Most people get tattoos because they like it. If other happen to like it great and if they don't that's great too. It is a freedom of expression. Similar to people putting "Costa" and "Salt Life" logos on the back of their trucks.

I laugh at the Civil War general beards so popular among the hipsters. In 10 years we're going to be viewing them the way we view mullets today.

I'm 44 years old with no tats.

I don't have anything against people that do have them though.

Different strokes.
