Depends on where you live, I think.

I travel a fair bit, and you do see regional differences, even in food that's pretty standard. Subway is kind of a 'safe fare', when you aren't sure about the local food options and are in a hurry.

In the UK and Ireland, its always the old fashioned cut; same in some regions of the US-- the DC area and central USA, as far south as about Little Rock. Go to the coasts, and you find the flat cut; I don't think I've had the old cut ever, in California, for example.
