Pretty much what I do when I hear someone use the term in a business setting.
Unless it is a 'baw' type then I just figure he is ignorant business norms.

As a descendant of the Viking people, your name offends me and is racist!
You MUST request a change immediately or fear me and my people will follow you to every restaurant and chant until you leave.

It is putting someone beneath you.

Fr33 also advocates that we should all be able to use the n word freely.

Talking down to a person and treating them like a child was often a racist treatment of black people because they weren't seen as fully capable of being real adults. Though in this case context would probably tell you that your boss is probably an older fella and would have referred to many young men as "son." It was probably a reach in this case.

Older or higher ranking doesn't mean you belittle people.

Oldman should have used "Cuz" instead. It's language he may understand.

Son shouldn't be used to address someone in a business situation.
It is putting someone beneath you.
It isn't a racist term though.

They didn't make it to the last sentence.
Don't understand being higher on the org chart only mean that people work beneath they aren't beneath you.

Vast majority of the time not used as an endearment. Why should you treat an adult in some special manner?

I can agree with this. Its not racist but condescending.

funny rowbear. it actually comes from the best show of all time:
Would you like your cucumber bruised? Slightly.
For everyone else, the ex-employee and the bossman had never met.
