Melius knew he was going to get major pushback for any bar opening--even a 1-story building. He knew many neighborhood meetings were going to take place with lots of people bitching, so he planned for it--he had a faux building plan drawn up for 3-stories with the intent to "give in" when the people complained. Then he had a 2-story set of plans as well, so he could once again "give in" to the neighbors.
He then could say, " folks, what more do you want?...I've already knocked two stories off the building!"...it was always going to be a 1-story building.
Checkmate.

Not true, He and Selby planned to live on the third floor, 2nd floor was going to be a meeting room. He spend a LOT more than he planned on those plan revisions. BTW, building was build with a second floor in the plans, it's ready for it.

Am I correct in my assumption that he also owns Melius Bar & Cafe in Bucktown? I practically lived there for a few months when I was at UNO. Their "Breakfast Shot" was divine.

Way better. They have roast beef and horseradish on them. Plus, I always burn my mouth on F&Ms fries

Well then I stand corrected.
I had heard that exact plan for the 3-stories back in the day, but then also heard it was just a plan to "fool" the neighbors...oh well.

Greg owns Hurricanes and Mugzy's with Josh and Redd's with Eric. No affiliation with Melius Cafe.
