re: When and why did restaurants start locking their bathrooms

I started locking the doors at my old place in Tacoma, WA in 2021 (pin code provided to customers as they were seated). Mostly due to drug use, but also general destruction and trashing of the facilities, as well as junkies coming in right before close and attempting to lock themselves in/hide until everyone left. It was 100% due to homeless junkies. I moved to rural-ish AZ in 2022 and my bathrooms are unlocked, so not sure why people are doing it in 'nice' areas.

They don't even unlock them to the public in LaJolla which is NOT low rent
La Jolla is nice.

They probably thought you were a homo with how you dress. Escorted you to the bathroom just to make sure your boyfriend didn't join you
You are seemingly very interested in other men’s sexuality. Pretty weird stuff

Junkies have made it where nobody can have nice things.
I've never been in a restaurant that locks their bathrooms, though.

There are no junkies in these places is the thing. It’s mostly soccer moms with fake tits and too much botox

quote:Semi-educated guess: they're aware of the industry trend of locking bathrooms due to junkies and are attempting to lean on that as justification for closing their own bathrooms—to cut out a slight headache and save a little money—because they're short-sighted idiots who value small, immediate savings over long-term customer satisfaction. I would complain, and if they persisted, I’d let them know they’ve lost your business.

It’s still the junkies’ fault when you trace the source, though.

It’s because blue cities allow the homeless to camp out and the businesses don’t want them using their restrooms. You voted for this.

They lock them here
I’d like to know the logistics of this. Do all employees carry a bathroom key on them? Imagine being the bathroom key guy

That’s news to me
