I watch this channel on youtube, Chuke's Outdoor Adventures, and he talks about bear protection a lot. He says that Guides in Alaska most often carry a Glock Model 20 in 10mm, for a pistol, but some people still carry big wheel guns. Big revolver is definitely more reliable. If a bear gets on you and you press a semi-auto up against it, it'll be out of battery and not fire.

I saw a video on this comparing a 10mm Glock with a 44 mag revolver. The 44 is a little more powerful but the test result showed the 10mm was better against a charging bear bc it’s quicker. The tester was able to get 2-3 accurate shots off with the Glock but only 1-2 with the revolver. So the recommendation was to carry the hottest hard cast 10mm you can find, likely buffalo bore.

Unless you are a ghetto rat you should consider that in a dire situation the shots that matter most are the first and second. Too many people focus on a handgun having a 9 round capacity or more. The average shootout has something like 2.8 rounds fired. You wont likely need the other 6 or 7 in your magazine anyway. I will take the wheel gun ANYDAY.

Right, this is my thought. comfort is most important to me. If the gun isn’t comfortable to carry then I won’t carry it. I don’t hang out in bad areas so the need to pull my gun is low and the need to fire it is even lower, and the need for more than 5 shots is really really small. It’s a risk I’m willing to take in exchange for comfortably pocket carrying a snubnose. Sometimes I appendix carry a 9mm with 12 rounds but rarely. People stress way too much about capacity.

Been carrying a S&W 66-2 .357 for 30+ years. Come at me bro.

Me, too. Exact same gun. Mine is also stainless. I put a set of Hogue grips on mine, Those factory grips were just too small for my hand.

10mm is what I now carry when needed for near protection.

I own a gang of automatic pistols. I reach for my 1911 Colt revolver when it matters.

I have never heard of a 1911 revolver, educate me

Colt has made some fine revolvers, all the snake guns (king cobra, python, my favorite the anaconda) the peacemaker, the bear guns ( grizzly, Kodiak) but the 1911 is an iconic semi auto that is simply an amazing design

SW Airweight is a revolver that is hammer less (technically concealed hammer), so doesn’t get caught in pants or anything on a pull. Very lightweight - Great gun for a purse, console, pocket

I think you are correct. It is a 1909 produced to whack Phillipino warriors that laughed at our .38 cartridges.

Unless you need a follow up shot.

That second one is going who knows where.
