I was pointing out that the progressives rail against patriotism because they see it as a form of "nationalism" which to them is akin to being a Nazis. But those same progressives not only ignore the fact the Nazis were socialists, they also are more and more every day openly embracing socialism.

But I don't think it was the economic policies that lead to a brainwashed population willing to commit genocide. I think that is typically attributed to the nationalist fervor.
And the socialist German economy bounced back from the depression quicker than any other European nation, so there's that.

Might want to check your history there. West Germany was not a socialist country. And as for the rebound of Germany after WWII, you can thank the Marshall Plan for that.

Germany bounced back faster due to military spending and an incredibly useful populace. Their case is not applicable to the US or 21st century economic policy.

You're absolutely right. I feel like I was on more solid ground with the anti nationalism argument than a pro socialism one.
