You can hire them for plans only, or hire them for plans AND to supervise your contractor. If you do the latter, they charge about 10% of what your final cost of house is, which includes plan (not lot)...
FWIW, I do not recommend the latter....

Thought about contracting myself but that's what I get from everyone that has done it
