I've been looking for a hobby this new year; and it would be this or beekeeping.

I could maybe do both; but staring at my computer, I can't for the life of me figure out how to make it hack.

Bee keeping is actually pretty fun and not too hard to learn about. I have 3 hives and I get about 50lbs of honey a year out of them. It's not that expensive to do either. Very easy to break even on all expenses by selling the honey. If you work real hard that's when you can turn it into a profit. My best advice is to find a local bee keeper and ask them if they would let you come over and show you the ropes.

Oh and you get immune to bee stings... Eventually... After lots and lots of stings. My record is 26 stings in about a 45min period.

Baton Rouge has a bee keeping society/club baw.

Hacking isn't really a hobby baw. That's about like becoming a stalker and calling it a hobby.

First you need to learn how to program.

If you're serious, I would start with a subscription to PenTester Academy and go through all of the videos there. You'll learn the basics of how to use some of the most popular tools but also of some of the most common programming languages. Also, if you're unfamiliar with Linux, you could look into this course that was literally announced yesterday (not offered until the summer).

All that being said, "hacking", as you call it, has a steep learning curve and is better off as a career than a hobby, unless you're a software developer or something. I would go beekeeping, and I would start with one of these: https://www.honeyflow.com/.

Alternatively, you could get into woodworking like I did. I'm not good at it, but it's far less infuriating than trying to debug exploit code.
