Its much more spread out than BR but what I couldnt figure out was why, supposedly the nicest area, Mountain Brook had so many abandoned and blighted homes up on the hill? I was there a few years ago it it seemed much nicer....we rode around Mountain Brook HS and the Elementary school area...very nice...however a lot of homes for sale and abandoned and blight. BTW....Church of the Highland is an incredible Mega Church...damn

Yeah you were in the burbs (which are mostly nicer than BR burbs BTW). The city itself isn't to me. My in laws live in Vestavia Hills which is a nice area. I haven't driven through Mountain Brook recently but in general it's a pretty affluent area

We ate at a place called Gianmarco. Great Italian restaurant but we actually stayed in Irondale

Yeah I’ve stayed downtown a few years ago, actually right across the street from UAB hospital. Downtown wasn’t much to be desired for. Although we did end up finding a nice steak and lobster joint close by, it’s been a few years so I can’t remember the name.

Haven't been there yet but I'll be there for Easter. Maybe I'll check it out. BR has better food overall save for Bbq. Birmingham has better breweries.
The cities themselves are otherwise pretty comparable to me. I grew up in BR and spend a lot of time in Birmingham. I'm not shitting on it but it's not like there's a big difference in quality of life.
ETA - I like it more than my wife does. She's like lsunurse is about BR. Something about some people hating their hometown

If you go check out the little wine bar behind the restaurant. Very unique set up.
It’s actually in Homewood
I’ll take your word on it. Just from my point of view it seems as though Bham has a little more going for them over BR.

Good BBQ is one area where I think Baton Rouge is lacking. I like Cou-Yon's in Port Allen though.
It's not up to Memphis or St. Louis standards, but few cities are.

I agree with that. I also think BR could up their game in the Mexican food department.

They have a better Mexican food scene than Nola does

And I still haven't been called out in this thread for marrying a gump. Disappointing OT

I actually don’t have a problem with Alabama woman, that state produces some nice looking woman.
It’s the male gumps that ruin it for the state

Alabama has some very friendly people and some nice looking women. But if you ever want to see the typical Bama stereotypes go to Walker County.

Not saying much.
I’m surprised both cities don’t have a better options, honestly. Texas is right there.

I hunt in Choctaw County a handful of times a year for the past 15 years, I’ve been to Butler more times than I can count. I know the Gumps very well.
And after this weekend I’ve had my fill of Gumps for a while.

Both Baton Rouge and New Orleans are lucky to avoid having a Whataburger every few miles. That place sucks.

He is. It's a shame he'll have to do it all over again next week when this exact same thread is started.

I’ve seriously been to better Mexican restaurants in Laffy, Houma, Thibodaux, Morgan City, and Lockport than any place in Baton Rouge or NOLA.

Everyone i’ve ever met who went to Ohio state says the same things about Columbus that we say about BR on this board.
That's weird. I would have no problems living in either Columbus or Baton Rouge.
