Can someone explain to me how Southern Baptists justify not drinking theologically. Jesus turned water into wine for fricks sake.
As a former member of the Southern Baptist denomination, I will tell you there are many answers to this depending on who you talk to. My favorites: the wine wasn’t really what we would call wine today. It was basically non-alcoholic. With absolutely no real evidence to back it up.
The other one was that Jesus just turned the water into wine. It never says he actually drank any of it.

Dear Waydown,
Respectfully, you’re now ready to become a male boss in the family, even as to your in-laws. Whether you push that button now or later— whenever the time is right— it will help immensely to have your wife’s support.
Spoken by a woman who thinks as a guest, you are to be graciously catered to.

Not sure why he just hasn’t had his own party by now

You set a precedent by acting like a bitch for 10 years. Can’t change it up now.

Their house their rules. I personally would just not go over there any longer for holidays like that. Now if you are literally the only person who drinks alcohol in the family then it won't matter where the gathering is hosting, you will up shite creek.

How do southern Baptists reconcile Jesus turning water to wine?

yep, one thing to show respect for the teetotalling in-laws but if this is a standing thing, 10 years in a row? really? he needs to put his foot down, probably not happening though

But He was okay with the other wedding attendees drinking it. LOL

I’d tell them to frick off and throw your own keg party with Jell-O shots and then invite them over the next day to help you clean up the mess

Excellent response. Masculine guy, good man, takes care of their daughter, stand up guy , works hard- and they won’t cater to him ? Or rather his wife just WONT unapologetically just tell them he’s going to have a beer ? I’d say that’s the right approach. Time to just be The Man and let the fundamentalists clutch their pearls.

That hard to bring a mini bottle and slip it into your coke?

Ask the FIL where his stash is. This is usually female Baptist driven

I think if that’s the deal and you try to circumvent that then it will turn into something else like y’all fighting bc she thought you were drunk or something.

quote:Maybe you should strap on some balls and tell your wife that there are plans with you family/friends this year.
Do I abide by the rules?
Or show up like this with a case of coors?
In the event you can't find those balls. You follow the rules of the hosts or stay home.

Also, OP, tell them you’re hosting this 4th of July. Problem solved. They shouldn’t get both celebrate America holidays every year.
