Everything about this, almost like we lived in the same neighborhood, but had a Honda MR50 first, then started with 3wheelers later! Man I miss those days!

My 1st concert was Kiss at the Centroplex in 77.

I was at that concert. I went through a tear of concerts around that time period... Styx, Heart, Peter Frampton, Kiss, and ZZ Top.

When “The Who” performed, the fans destroyed the River Center, and they put a stop to all rock bands there for at least 10 years, and basically killed the growing music scene in BR.

Free speech ally was big at LSU. No AC in Johnson, Hodges, or the Tiger Stadium dorms. Purvis Jock Shop was the only place other than the LSU bookstore that sold LSU jerseys, tees, caps, etc. I remember hearing guys talk about how they had hamburgers, just like your mom cooks at home, only the patties are square, the week before Wendy's opened. Concerts, concerts, concerts!

There are 23 pages of Assembly Center concert pictures in this 1978 Gumbo.

By then, disco was pretty much dead.
The concerts covered include:

Willie Nelson & Emmylou Harris
Chicago
Average White Band
Crystal Gayle
Styx
Foghat
Rod Stewart
John Denver
Emerson, Lake and Palmer
Frank Zappa
Heart
Harry Chapin
Boz Scaggs
The Grateful Dead
Richie Havens
Gino Vanelli
Kris Kristofferson & Rita Collidge
David Bowie

ETA:
Heart was actually at the Centroplex.

In the 70;s Capital Bank bet on Baton Rouge growing East. It went South instead. Anyone remember the name of that sporting goods store? Athletic House? I remember Denny Braud's near the State Capital. Fun times. Didn't know how good we had it.

Athletic House was on Tom Drive. Mainly team sports. Bought all my football pads and helmets there for BREC Sherwood Hawks Football.

I had an old pair of Browning lace up boots on a couple weeks ago that I bought at Steinberg’s. They were close to $200.00 even way back then but here I am close to 40 years later and I still wear them occasionally.

Nice! I got the 125 after I sold the XR. Never camped at Chipola, but never missed a weekend there for years.

Good times.

The LSU Union had turntables and vinyl next to the reading room. If you wanted to listen to some fine equipment that you couldn't afford, Kadairs was the place.

Disco scene was more like early 80’s Early 70’s The Book Cellar and Pier One (the old white building) was the go-to place for waterbeds, black lights, and other hippie gear. Sound systems with the biggest speakers you could cram into your house were a status symbol.. New Generation was the hot spot for those. Drag racing was a thing ‘across the River”.

ETA: all blue collars belonged to a union. If you didn’t you were called a Scab.

Baton Rouge in the late 70s and 80s was quite possibly the most perfect place to grow up.

By early 90s, the true devastation of Parker's deseg order on schools and neighborhoods was becoming apparent.

Channel 9 signed on every morning with this racist test pattern. Then Buckskin Bill came on the air with old episodes of the Little Rascals, Three Stooges and Bugs Bunny Need I say more?
