Can't believe I forgot Parkside. If you're a hipster, Parkside is an infinitely cooler location for being hipster than Collins.
Parkside is a cool bar, even for the non hipster crowd. The HotBox restaurant in the back is off the chain good.
You can really make a day / night out of it in Avondale alone:
Day drink at Avondale Brewery.
Melt, Post office Pies or HotBox for dinner.
Grab a Moscow or Mississippi Mule at 41st Pub & Aircraft Sales.
(Soon to open is Satellite & Saturn, one a coffee shop and the other a music venue.)
Then end the night drinking on the back patio at Parkside listening to a damn good band.
(an oyster bar is set to open in Avondale in the summer)
As a live music lover, there is honestly more live music going on each night or weekend than I can take in.
The Magic City is coming back.

I agree with this. Parkside definitely appeals to a wide variety of people, though I think that can be said about most bars in Bham. I've gone to Parkside with a 50 year old CEO, "fraternity guy" types, hipster, and a UAB Dental grad on separate occasions who all loved it.

Guy I graduated high school with is one of the owners/bartenders at Parkside. They really have done good things with the place.
