Same as all the spiders I see.

The dead kind.

Until I get a clear shot of the abdomen, it is best to be careful. Every once in a while, a female will have the red spots (rare) and this spider would be very large for a male.

ETA: Definitely has an hourglass on the underside of the abdomen.

Outdoor expert here. That is a young female black widow. The red markings are on their back when they are young and wander around. This makes the markings more visible to predators.

Once they are ready to nest the marking moves to their underside. Because they are in a web guarding eggs the marking being on bottom is more visible.

Male black widows look nothing like the females and are tiny.

Thanks. I'm fairly knowledgeable on spiders, but the markings on the top and bottom and size confused me somewhat. It is a beautiful spider - very shiny black color and vivid red markings.

I still remember the first time I saw a widow as a kid. I lifted up a old frying pan covering the septic clean out and there it was. For some reason even at that young age the shiny black and red let me know not to mess with it

The very venomous upside down black widow. You won't even make it to the hospital if it bites you

Tri power!

It seems like you don't see the black and yellow garden spiders like you used to.
