If you choose not to answer, that still gives them an obvious "yes I have a firearm" answer.

They fricked All I know is if someone is crazy enough to continue to break in after hearing the pump from a shotgun they are dumb as frick This. For home defense nothing beats a 12 gauge pump shotgun loaded with buck shot or slugs. Just pumping the thing will scare the shite out of most men. Staring down that 12 gauge pipe of death will do the rest. If you do end up having to pull the trigger, you don't have to be the best shot (under that kind of duress I bet most guys would be off the target a ring or two). And also very importantly, you don't have to worry about rounds penetrating sheet rock and hitting your loved ones in the next room. Small caliber super sonic rounds like a 9mm can go through several rooms, not something you want to have to factor in when the shite is going down.
At the point someone is in your bedroom racking a round into a pump shotgun is the last thing I want to be concened about. Scare time has passed and possibly having a feed problem in the dark and stress of the encounter is something I could do without. A shotgun with high brass six or equivalent is plenty good for stopping power without the worry or collateral damage.
Regarding pistol or rifles, frangible ammo does the job as well.

Exactly. Rack that slide once and it should be enough warning.

walking around your own house with a light on is a terrible tactical mistake. I think the best option is to have the light and only turn it on once you've encountered whoever is in your house.
Yea, I've thought about this too. I think the advantage comes back to me though with the strobe setting on my tactical Streamlight. That thing practically makes you want to vomit staring into it. It is very, very intense.

Yup.
Why keep an empty space in the gun just to make the noise? That's one less round you have

There's no secret government form that gets sent to the liberals that all healthcare workers are in on to try to create a list of everyone obama needs to personally visit and take their guns or anything
Just like the sexual questions aren't to secretly tell your SO later that you're a cheating whore or anything.

I have a five year old son,but I keep a trigger lock on my gun with a combination so he can't get his hands on it.

Looks like they'll be in trouble.

At work, when we admit our kids, one of the questions we ask the parents is if they own a gun and how it's stored(just part of a bunch of safety questions we ask).

My fear is a get too loaded to have a handgun around.

What's the obsession with racking a shotgun?
As much as I'd like to have the excuse to blow someone away in my own home, racking the shotgun makes me feel better about not having some bullshite charges brought against me for excessive force or not giving the intruder fair warning.
I rack the gun, intruders stays....he was given fair warning and I will now proceed to take a life.

You have less ammo carrying capacity, because you have to start with an empty chamber
With an empty chamber, I still have 6 shells after I rack it. If I can't hit 1 or 2 intruders at close range with that, then that's on me.
Not to mention, the way my bedroom door is situated as it pertains to my stairs, I easily have the drop on anyone coming up there once I've made my presence known.
At that point, I've positioned myself advantageously, the criminal knows I'm here armed, and I can call the police from a safe place if necessary.
In this day and age, I want to do everything possible to avoid shooting someone while maintaining a safe environment for myself.

Yep, the first time I went to the OBGYN with my pregnant wife, they took her in the room alone and asked her all kinds of questions about spousal abuse.
I can see where it would help in some cases with abusive husbands, but wasn't too happy about the "guilty before innocent" position it put me in.
I just don't believe that the medical profession should be prying into the personal lives of their patients.

G29 and 870. Both within arms reach.

Any way you cut it, the racking the slide/pumping shotgun thing with the sole intention of scaring an intruder is dumb. Now, if you don't want a round chambered for safety purposes, I understand. I keep my hammer on an empty chamber with my revolver for peace of mind

It happens often, more than the typical middle-upper class white population thinks, and all the questions are medically relevant. It's not just fishing for personal information for the sake of doing it.
For instance. They don't ask you what you do for a living because they're curious of the money you make or want to judge you or anything. It's just to see what kind of hazards you're exposed to, any risk factors, etc. More information presented, the better the clinical picture for the physician. Something that seems insignificant can be pretty important from a diagnostic standpoint.

Umm, I think fair warning is the lock on my door. The only warning I'm giving is the bang.

Hands down my favorite handgun.
Went to the gun store to kill time and as soon as they put it in my hand it was over. Bought it without thinking twice and don't regret it one bit.
