i'd rather live in a city of 350k people in order to meet new people than a college town of 20-30k students only

How I.m making new contacts and where the returning home for employment comes into play? I graduated ole miss, moved to Houston (miserable) and recently found myself in NOLA working my dream job. My college friends or even acquaintances had next to zero in terms of my future professions
No matter what your current circumstances, there is one underlying truth about life that is always in play, and that is that it's always much more about who you know than what you know. Depending upon what you choose to get into or may bet into in the future, it will undoubtedly determine just how important this is. That's all I was saying, and so there is a very real case for making contacts and friendships in school that will impact your life where you plan to live rather than just where all your college friends now reside.

I agree 100%, I don't even think I was asked my college GPA on my last two jobs. I never had to rely on college buds/contacts for a career after school but going to Ole Miss certainly opened new possibilities that would not have been found anywhere else. The best four years of my life took place in Oxford and I wouldn't change a thing. I graduated and did my own thing, which I know some of the posters thinking can't fathom

It blows peoples minds that this can be achieved without being some Oxford frat dog

Its not like that doesn't happen at every other school. I will say, I loved Athens.

Well I didn't read 21 pages so maybe this has been covered but why would anyone go to another state school and pay out of state tuition? If you have a scholarship I get it but out of state Alabama is $40k plus a year versus what is LSU now? $5 k or thereabouts? It's not worth the money, especially for an undergraduate degree.

If you can, why not?

Want to get away from Baton Rouge and aren't handcuffed by tuition prices? I went to Episcopal and then Ole Miss FWIW. I loved every minute of it. Baton Rouge blows.
As if Oxford is any better. You sound like an idiot.
