Here's a link to a story about a survivor of both A-Bombs who died in 2010.

LINK

There was a woman named Violet Jessop who survived the sinking of both the RMS Titanic and HMHS Brittannic (sister ships).

The most liberal estimate of total deaths at Hiroshima I could find was 300,000 over a period of many years. Most estimates are far less. 66,000 killed immediately is the widely accepted number. Here is a link from Yale that supports that number of instant fatalities. As was said before, the total population of Hiroshima today is about 1.2 million. I think you are confusing your numbers, there.

As far as how we could get away with dropping two bombs. Who the hell was going to stop us? No one else had them at the time, and as has been stated, the loss of US soldiers lives during hand to hand combat to occupy Japan would have been staggering. Many of your friends might not be here today because their fathers or grandfathers would have been killed trying to secure a victory. Think about it. It would be a vastly different world.

your thread title does not match up to your expectations.

It could be Hiroshima or Nagasaki.
It might be the day that Genghis Ghan reached some eastern european city with 150,000 warriors. 150,000 people can kill a lot of people in one day.

Bump for the day crowd. Although I think the OP should be edited to simply "What is the worst day in human history?" - no conditions. Should promote more discussion than simply the deadliest day in human history.
