I think we have this backwards as a society (myself included). People used to have kids young and then figure that out. I think it inspired men to work harder.

It depends on the two individuals.
I was a Senior in college and my wife was a Nurse, working full time. We decided to have a baby.
Son was born in April and I graduated in Sept. We both were willing to accept the responsibility.
I wouldn't change anything, but I realize it wouldn't work out for most couples.

A few years before you think you can afford it. The sooner the better because it’s great being older and secure as a new dad - but when you have high schoolers in your 50’s it’ll wear you out.

Married at 22. First child at 27, 4th and last one at 37.

Couldn’t tell you if it was the “best” time but I’m glad we had those five years for me to get my career started. Wife was a teacher with a masters degree. She quit work when the first was born and was a SAHM for 15 years. Although her income would have helped it worked out fine.

Do things in the right order - This is most important

Get an education or learn a trade
Get a job
Get married
Have children

For women, I think the perfect ages to start having children is between 26-28. For men - 28 - 40.

Early to mid 20s.

Keeping up with a toddler is a young person's game, and even if you're worried about finances, a lot of major expenses (child care, insurance, college) are just going to get more expensive.

Some people start right after both graduate from college. Some, not many, start right after HS. I know a couple in which the wife actually got pregnant in HS. It was a complete surprise. She was one of the smartest in her class, involved in things at school (not your stereotypical pregnant teen deal). She dropped out and got her GED then went on to graduate college, they had a few more kids after she finished school.

Some people want to get their career started first so to answer your question... Between the age of 18 and late 30s?

started mine at 40, wife was 35

I was just shy of 40 when our first daughter was born. Wife was a few days away from being 35. Our 2nd is 4.5 months old. Both daughters' and my wife's birthdays are all within a week of each other.

The obvious downside is you know waiting means that's 10-15 fewer years you'll get to spend with your kids and grandkids. However, I had those years to start, establish, and grow my business. My wife has a masters degree, as well.

???

Having 6 kids is unlikely if she is 44?
