I've had the Ryobi 18v set for a while now. I like that I can use either type of battery with them. I've also been able to add tools to the set some 4 years later and use the same batteries. Now I did buy a new battery as one seemed to not really hold a charge for very long but that wasnt one of the lithium Ion batteries.

I have the Ryobi 18V set and love it as well. Great for tools around the house.

My father in law recently bought an 18v Dewalt riding lawnmower. Claims it's the best on the market.

That battery wouldn't last 5 minutes.
Depends on the Father in-law

If you are looking for yard tools Stihl makes a Kombi system. You buy a motor/shaft and there are several attachments for it including a blower attachment.
I have 2 Stihl chainsaws and a pole saw and I also have 2 of the ECHO PAS systems with all of the attachments. My crews do a lot of tree trimming and shrub cutting during the Summer and I would absolutely recommend the ECHO over the Stihl simply because it's less maintenance. I have to take my Stihl products in a lot more often for tune ups vs ECHO and Stihl has never solved the issues with their carburetors.
I also have some commercial Huskavarna tools and they kick arse.
For cordless tools all we use is Makita but my corded tools are Dewalt.
