As far as DMT, is there even conclusive evidence that it's released when you die? All I've found is some random dude said it once. I can't even find anything saying DMT is even produced in the brain

You really can't ask what happens after death and say this isn't a religious thread. Most sensible people know what happens or what doesn't happen.

I've brought a few cardiac arrests back on the ambulance, well I should say we did. I've had one tell me to the T about slipping while getting out of ambulance. I've had one they told me while he was flat lined and cpr on going telling my driver "this ain't nascar, be careful." My dad flatlined and recalled angels but said not like what we think of angels. Said it was more like warriors and he knew exactly what they were there for. He was shocked in ER and brought back. He remembers seeing demons also but they wouldn't get near him b/c of angels. Never known him to lie. He never told me all that until years later when I asked him. We didn't church much before then. Next day he told me to go get baptized and he has been going to church regularly since heart attack 20 years ago. He has already posted in this thread fwiw. Awkward we know each other's screen name I know
Thanks for sharing. I 100% believe you and have seen it first hand as well.

I believe it's fairly simple.. We are alive because our body and brain are functioning. When we die, we are just part of a cycle of life and death. A very small, insignificant part of a very large universe. Most people's short life doesn't mean much to the grand scheme of their city, state, country, or even our planet.. let alone our universe.
Okay...then when we're "alive" where does our conscious come from? Are humans the only animals to have a conscious or do other animals contemplate their own existence? If not, why are humans different? Why do we have a conscious while all other life does not?
Perhaps all life does have a conscious...or perhaps all life does not.
Perhaps everything we're experiencing right now isn't even real, but rather the imagination of another creature.

There is evidence that an incredible surge of neural activity floods your brain when you die. I'm still researching the validity of the DMT claim...

I posted something far less offensive than your post and was attacked for it.

I do not have an answer for what you're asking. However, our brains are far more advanced than any other creature on our planet.
I think the most likely scenario is that other animals have consciousness, but not the brain capacity to fathom how large their world is or to contemplate their role in the world. Their primary focus is making it through the day every day. Their consciousness is limited to the capability of their brains.

Going back to the software analogy, it's kind of akin to them having an older version of software while we have the newer, constantly evolving version that unlocks new features and is capable of many more things.

Your brain can project what you expect to see / experience.

We've delved into talking about demons, so I wouldn't feel too bad.

The majority of people with near death experiences speak of it being calming and very clear and concrete. A surge of neural activity is basically what schizophrenia is

I understand what you were asking but I was asked how do we has human beings know that there was nothingness before life? Before the time our of our conception or making how do we know that we weren't already conscious of our being? We don't know if we as humans have the mental capacity to reach back that far to remember time before life. We may know exactly what happened an it may be barried so deep in our minds that only death lets it show its face again to us. What if DMT isn't actually what cases these near death experiences what if it's our mind opening back up to the universe and returning home?

That being said, if the universe DID have a beginning and you appeal to this "prime mover" - who or what created the prime mover? Surely something more powerful and complex had to be there before the prime mover to create said prime mover?

My first post was this:

It takes more courage to truly believe in God than not.
And for some reason that set off a shite storm of anger and vitriol.

quote:Don't see where I was suggesting anything like that. But, since you brought it up, who's to say that the Prime Mover could not create their own rules?
If the universe needed a cause because all things need a cause, then the prime mover needed one too. But if you're willing to suggest the prime mover did not, then why not

isn't that essentially the genesis of the question at hand? I'm not sure that we as a species will ever have the capacity to scientifically answer the causation question
