If you are asking that question you probably don't have extensive experience with guns....so my suggestion would be a shotgun with buckshot.
Then you don't have to be an expert shot....just point and pull and wife can easily use if you're disabled.

The answer to these types of questions is almost always going to be the AK-47. 100 percent reliable, can take a 40 plus round mag, and plenty lethal.

I dont know about what your packing but I am strapped. I happen to work within a few miles of this area. Im usually packing regardless though.This whole situation could get very messy. News conference going now. I will be on high alert.
