Because they are shallow narcissists who desire an uncommon terminology to describe themselves. This is part of the insanity of people believing gender equates to "sexual identity" instead of it being simply a placeholder for biological sex (as it has been throughout history since the beginnings of recorded languages).

Indeed, but that’s because we don’t have a standard gender neutral singular pronoun
In other languages, it sounds no different than any of the singular “they” examples in this thread.
