What does it mean to "know thyself"?

A friend of mine said you should know yourself before getting married. I agreed with him, but I really didn't know what I was agreeing with him about.
Is it simply about knowing my likes and dislikes and knowing what motivates me?
Or is it more about taking a deeper look at myself and how I connect to the world, the big picture?
And after watching one YouTube video on the subject, it may be that the "self" is an illusion, and therefore no one can truly know thyself. But frankly, I think that is bs.

I feel like you should probably try men for a while. It’s like Jim said, frick a man, then frick a woman, go with whatever you like more.

I appreciate the advice. Where do the gays congregate so that I might find one to frick?

Maybe just mature enough to understand marriage, which is a big damn leap. Most ain’t ready for one sexual partner, forever. Need to date , experience all the shite you want, and then when you are ready for that kind of relationship, you’ll know.......

Try the soccer board. They are already knowing themselves and other men too.

It's neither.
It's the understanding of the underlying factors and biases that make up your thoughts, actions, and patterns
