Anyone know someone who struggles with this? What do they act like when they are manic? What are the signs?

Ever seen Homeland? Carrie has a whole season revolved around her manic state. It would be bad to deal with IRL.

I can say with resonable certainty that Trump is not bipolar nor has anyone really accused him of such.

Had a buddy in college goes through several.
One time he organized a "music festival" and told everyone that all these famous bands were coming. It was in a field and he built a stage by hand and everything. One tiny band came and about 6 spectators. I don't think he slept for 2 weeks leading up to it.
Another time, he hand wrote like 3,000 business cards for his "Entertainment" company.
His family had a really bad history of mental illness. His brother was a full blown schizophrenic. My buddy is doing well now though, has it under control and has a decent job and a hot wife.

Elevated mood, inflated self-esteem, decreased need for sleep, racing thoughts, difficulty maintaining attention, increase in goal-directed activity, and excessive involvement in pleasurable activities.
The person can be happy, grandiose, irritable. It's pretty dependent on the person as to how it manifests.

I think it kind of depends person to person. My stepdad is OCD and is obsessed with his yard and his driveway. I've seen him cut his entire front yard on his hands and knees with a pair of scissors after mowing it because "it wasn't even".
Once someone came to the house and parked in our driveway, big no to start with, and the guys car dripped one little spot of oil and he spent no less than 6 hours with a toothbrush and mineral spirits in the driveway cleaning up "all the fricking oil his piece of shite dropped". It was one drop. One. He was convinced every little speck of dirt somehow sprayed all over our driveway from underneath this guys car and was oil. It wasn't worth trying to reason with him. He's like a 2 year old child when he's like that.

Yeah but OCD got nothing to do with being Manic. Totally different.

This is a pretty accurate description of what I've seen. It gets exhausting quickly trying to keep the person herded up.

Manics are usually great fun to hang with until they crash.

my number one symptom is sleeping less
being extra fidgety, like tearing off my fingernails
talking/texting/posting a lot
very distractible and can't concentrate
getting easily irritated and feeling anxious for no reason
decreased appetite
symptoms of a bad episode are paranoid and delusional thoughts, isolating, zero sleep, getting really angry
