It sounds like these guys have recent military experience. They should think about reenlisting in a unit that's likely to be involved. Then they'd have logistics, medical, and all the other support. The Pesh are well intentioned, tough fighters, but they're an irregular force with all that entails. Even with American support, they'll be poorly supplied, haphazardly led, and if they get sick or wounded, they'll be SOL.

And oh by the way, the Turks don't trust the Kurds at all. So while they're fighting ISIS, they may get "accidentally" bombed by the Turkish air force once in a while.

ISIS would probably love the propaganda potential of a few evil Americans joining the fight

Had a pastor say many years ago..before hardly ever heard of the Kurds that the people of that region (Kurdistan) were the ancient worlds best fighters, and meanest. None of the surrounding people would ever dare go into their territory. He theorized that was why Jonah tried to hide in that area. And its also why their land was divided among three countries - Iran, Turkey, and Iraq. No one wanted to deal with a united Kurdistan. Might be incorrect, dont know, but interesting.

The US government would probably stop them from doing so.

However, if they were going over to fight FOR ISIS, no problemo.

I love donkeys as much as the next guy but in the immortal words of Meatloaf, I'd do anything for love....but I won't do that.

Isn't there some law against an American fighting in a foreign war?

I'm honestly not sure, but we DID have Americans fighting in China (The Flying Tigers), and Americans joining the RAF before/during the Battle of Britain before we were involved in WWII....

I have mixed feelings.

Don't blame ya, I would as well....

quote:

They want to go because they view ISIL as a huge threat to us, so they are patriots.

They are ABSOLUTELY CORRECT on both points, and are probably trying to do something because we have the most incompetent, most corrupt, most disengaged, most out of touch with reality leftist surrenderist appeasing piece of shite infecting the White House in this nation's history.

quote:

I hate to see them take such a risk (though both say they know the Kurds and trust them).

Hate to see them take a risk myself, but if they are actual combat soldiers who are competent Infantry types, be it Army or Marines, or better yet special forces and not some ash & trash logisticians, then they can bring a lot of powerful value to the scene, and teach the brave Kurds a hell of a lot...and since the coward piece of shite in the White House and all of his filthy leftist sycophants (Reid, Cuntin, et al) won't do it, somebody has to......

ETA: Also, IF they are not blow-hards and are serious, remind them that this cowardly Administration won't go out on a limb to save our own people, so remind them that they would be totally on their own.

I don't know but it's highly unlikely anyone will hunt them down for prosecution.

quote:

They have both asked me what I think

Then they aren't serious. I can sorta understand wanting the rush of fighting with comrades in arms and all that, but if you're serious about it you don't ask your coworkers for approval, you just go.

both say they know the Kurds and trust them

For that part of the world, the Kurds do generally have it together. If you wanted to go over there and pick a side to fight for that's probably the one to go with.

How often do you get a chance in life to become a badass mercenary?

Gosh golly? Well, Mrs. Cleaver, I was playing with Wally and the Beaver, and actually, I am very calm when I state facts.

I respect what they are trying to do, but imo it's a death wish. If they're former military, they have to know that fighting for Peshmerga, would be significantly different, than fighting for the United States. Peshmerga really has no tactical advantage against ISIS. They depend on the U.S. a lot, in terms of supplies, weapons, and air support.

This X1000.....

And, with this administration, ALL 3 are sorely lacking.... The ONLY reason this cowardly administration has launched a few sorties a day blowing up some sand and empty huts (and having the GALL to call it an "Air Campaign") is because it knows that their asses are about to get handed to them in the Mid-Term elections, so it wants to appear "tough" to the uneducated idiots.

I think one ex-soldier did join the anti-ISIS forces.

Like the link above me, one guy already has. Seems the Kurds are just as good of fighters, if not better, than ISIS but lack good weaponry. I would say it would seem somewhat safer in Iraq where there is still a lot of support than Syria where they seem more isolated defending their towns. In kobane the Kurds are losing the battle during the day and winning it back at night. They have had to resort to suicide bombing and road side bombings to survive. Seems scary as frick to go over there fighting for someone else like that.

I've honestly thought about joining. It's a shame what's going on over there. Kurds are good people. But I'm too old for that stuff now and have my own kids now.

Personally think it's badass as hell and if they decide to go they are American heros and god bless em. But I sure as hell wouldn't do it.
