The first thing is to think to yourself, that's a shitload of 4's, so divide both sides by 4 to get: a failing grade in math class

The first step is always to simplify the equation as much as possible. Multiplying both sides by a constant doesn't change the equation.

Have a Question? Call Foy (344)-844-4244

The James E. Foy Information Desk has plenty of experience in handling the unexpected. For this twenty- four hour call in service, answering questions ranging from all different types of topics has become almost second nature to most of its employees.

Matt Lauer of NBC’s “The Today Show” called the information desk live on air to see if his question could be put to the test.

“While we do get a lot of calls from Auburn students, the majority of the calls are now from across the nation,” said Dowling. “Some of the most frequent calls come from NY, PA, AL, LA, MS and randomly people from OH.”

Simplifying
4m + -4 = 4m

Reorder the terms:
-4 + 4m = 4m

Add '-4m' to each side of the equation.
-4 + 4m + -4m = 4m + -4m

Combine like terms: 4m + -4m = 0
-4 + 0 = 4m + -4m
-4 = 4m + -4m

Combine like terms: 4m + -4m = 0
-4 = 0

Solving
-4 = 0

Couldn't find a variable to solve for.

This equation is invalid, the left and right sides are not equal, therefore there is no solution

Ask the teacher for help. Hire a math tutor if he starts to struggle and you still can't help. I know a local university had posted a page where parents could ask math questions to help parents with this Common Core nonsense. May see if there's something similar around there.
The freaking 2nd graders are doing algebra!

Have y'all had open house yet? Address the issue with the teacher now, don't wait until Randy starts bringing home F's. Go ahead and find a tutor now before it's too late.

Asking for occasional homework help =\= needing a tutor

He asked me if both were unsolvable so he knew the answer. He doesn't need to be taught, just wanted a second opinion

I saw a guy today who had to be 70 struggling in front of his cart, reaching to the back to get the last few items. Maybe I should have a batch printed up and go around sticking them to the fronts of conveyors???

When you plug the equation in it reduces just like above.

In Algebra you're solving for a variable, usually "x" or "y",or you want to simplify it as much as possible.

It ends up -4=0,and that's not an answer, not really.

Save that Link for you,or Randy. It shows every step of solving a problem.

Enjoy.

Don't let him go deeper into the class until you are sure he has each concept down. That's the importance of reviewing the math homework.

As the concepts are introduced, they tend to build on each other. If he misses something, it will bite him in the arse and he will be lost.

And frustrated.

It will take a good but if time at the dinner table, making sure he's got it. But it will pay off long term.

No way you have a kid old enough to be in geometry.

Can you send some more nudes so I can take another look to see if that's really possible?
