There's more that goes into it than just income, but in terms of income, most class models define upper middle class as a household income in the high 5 figure range (probably starting at like $75-80k) up through the $300k - $400k household income range. But obviously there is overlap so you're never going to have clear boundaries

Laughing at your blazing honesty on the OT. I think you just revoked your posting privileges.
But I did lol at peon.

150k salary. that's top 10%
I think that was quoted earlier around $51,000

it's in the 45-50-ish range, so yeah
i mean top 10% is probably stretching it, but these threads are skewed by the demographics of posters

From which segment do you think is most correct? Most incorrect?

One from which is further away from the upper middle to upper class line or one that's closest.

That's a great question.
My thought would be that those that are closest don't believe they are and those that are further away think that the close ones are definitely there.

You could also say the ones from further away blur the line because of envy as well not see a distinction.
Where those closest to it see the distinction very clearly because they are in it.

I grew up with parents who had close to upper middle class income but were at least a class lower socially. I am definitely dating up at least a class or two.
Same. Where I grew up I think had a lot to do with it

my family would probably be considered upper middle class, but we're from bunkie and we try our hardest to be trashy, so it's really a grey area.

i'm from a lower-middle class, single-parent earner family, but we act at least 2 classes above our pay grade
...possibly our collective pay grade

The area where you live has so much to do with it. What I would see as upper middle class in this area would be defined as rich or upper class in a lot of areas of the country.
