I'm in Charleston now and while it is a great city, it can grow a little old and redundant after a while.
Charleston is such a small area that has a major influx of snowbirds recently (looking at you Ohio and Pennsylvania). Not only do they take some of the ambiance and charm with them, but they make the affordability of the city crazy expensive.
Charleston has great eating, drinking and nightlife, but it still is pale in comparison to the big cities (NYC, LA, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, New Orleans, Atlanta, etc.) We offer great stuff, but we don't have the quantity (or diversity) that other cities offer.
Charleston lacks a major university (sorry Citadel and CoC) as well as professional sports teams. Charleston also lacks a great music scene. If you like the outdoors, we are limited to fishing, some kayaking and paddle boarding. Face it, we are in the low country and we are limited.
The weather is typically good for the most part...It's consistent. You are not going to get 4 seasons...so you better love Spring/Summer.
You'll get an occasional hurricane...the streets flood quite frequently here...but it's pretty consistent.
You better love old homes and their quirks as well. Old homes, while great, aren't "comfortable" living to the suburb types. You're going to have plumbing issues, creeks and pops, the layout is going to be a little different, the streets are going to be kind of tight and cobbled....it's an old town.
If you can live in the South of Broad region and The Battery...yeah Charleston is a great place. I'm just itching to make the move. I feel like I have seen it and done it all. Back to the topic...
I'd like to move somewhere like NY, DC, or Chicago for a little while and then get back to Charleston to "grow old".

My choice would be any of the coastal towns in northern San Diego County-- Oceanside, Encinitas, Solana Beach, Carlsbad.

I enjoy visiting Charleston, but yea I could see myself getting bored after a while
I could see the appeal of living there in the winter time though
DC hasn't gotten old to me, there is so much going on

Lots of similarities between the two. I can see why CofC is a popular choice for a lot of New Orleans kids
I went to CofC and there were a always huge amount of NOLA kids there.
They used to take over O'Malleys (RIP) on Sundays for Saints games.
