I bet you survey 100 people where they want to live 2 would say San Antonio. Spur and a messican.

I can only associate "wings" with that town.

Nah, the Alamo City is every Texan's favorite town after their hometown, tbh

And "messican" culture is pretty damn cool

I'm pretty much a hippie, and Bend is pretty far out even for me.

What? That's home for me. My earliest memories are there, I have family there, I got married there. Of course I wanna go back there.

For our next move we'll probably do one of two things:

1. Move to one of our dream U.S. destinations like Washington or Oregon, where we will be thousands of miles from family.

or

2. Make a permanent move somewhere much closer to family to a place we like, but not as much as the locations mentioned above.

If we opt for the second scenario, our first choice will probably be Austin/Hill Country.

I already live in the hippie capital of the East Coast, Bend isn't much of a stretch for me.

Much headier and less hipstery than Portland.

There's really not a bad spot to settle down anywhere on that I-35 corridor from SA to Austin

Wifey and I are hoping to get back there after Uncle Sam is done with us in a few years. Gotta follow the $$$, but we'll see how it shakes out.

I concur. We have really good friends in San Marcos and San Antonio too. That makes taking the leap much easier. In Washington, Utah, Oregon, etc., we wouldn't know anyone.

Yeah, not knowing anyone in the area can be tough. I think being a military brat has made it kind of something I'm used to dealing with, but I know it's hard for wifey since she only ever moved once growing up. I know she misses TX and all her friends/family down there, and for me, I'd like to settle down in a familiar place.

Gonna be weird after a few years, though. Longest I ever stayed in one place was while I was a student at TAMU, and even then my folks actually moved across the state while I was in school

Across the state from San Antonio doesn't sound appealing.

Hopefully you mean north of S.A... Or east.

Tbird, what's the $ per acre looking like for decent land within an hour or two of Austin?

All my research tells me my fellow weirdos in restaurants would love locally sourced foods.

Oh, nah, I exaggerated a bit, I guess

They were living in the Waco area when I left for TAMU, and they moved to College Station while I was in school. Not too far away.

I've lived in Waco, San Antonio (2x), and of course, Bryan/CStat in TX.

Can't help ya there, I'm afraid. I'm still about a year out from seriously checking out the buyer's market down there.

Should be pretty decent for buyers, though. I'm just not an expert at this moment

No worries. I'm too lazy (and drunk) to do much research, thought I'd ask a native.

It's really about $ per acre versus productivity $ per acre. I have a feeling the ratio might be higher around there, but I don't know that I could stomach being a 'Texan'.

Hey, you'd be a naturalized Texan like me. I was born in Montgomery, my folks just moved to TX a couple weeks after I was born

They're good folks, albeit a little arrogant. If you don't believe that Texas is the greatest place on earth, you need to keep it to yourself.
