What Are Your Expectations Regarding The Giving of a Gift?

A. No acknowledgement necessary. It was simply an expression of a desire to give a gift.
B. An acknowledgement of the gift would be nice so that I at least know it was received.
C. A thank you card is expected since thought, time, and money were put into the gift.
D. It depends on the occasion (wedding, graduation, etc.) or the value/effort (automobile, personal creation, etc.) of the gift.
E. A combination of the above (explain).
F. ???
I probably fall mostly into B but have veered into the D range on select occasions, as well.

If I don't get a thank you card within 2 weeks I burn their house down. Not sure what letter that falls under

That sounds like a C with an asterisk.

Definitely B if it was not given by me in person. Whether it's a phone call, a text, an actual thank you note .. SOMETHING so that I know it wasn't lost in the mail or stolen.
I think it's ungrateful for people to not acknowledge it in some way ... but I honestly just want to know that it made it there and that I'm not being cursed for being the aunt/sister/etc that "didn't remember x occasion".

Only time I expect a thank you card is for graduation, baby shower, or wedding/wedding shower gifts.

Sounds a lot like me. I have family members, though, that are hardcore B.
If you don't send that thank you note within a day or two, they are calling, making comments, threatening no more gifts, etc.
I do have a family member that never acknowledges gift cards sent for birthdays, holidays, etc. I've debated sending a card only in the future, but I've been trying my best to be all about A lately.
