Is he actually doing a really good job, and you are just jealous that you aren't as hardworking and competent as him? Cause it kind of sounds like that.

It really has nothing to do with him working hard. The workplace is a game and he is currently beating you. It is all about perception and kissing the right arse. If you want to move up quickly in the company then you better start doing the same or you can be the guy that gets passed up for promotions by people with less experience and who are just better at the game. Who you know trumps what you know in just about every industry whether people want to admit it or not. I learned the hard way

Yes, the guy sounds like an asskiss, but he's also going above and beyond to do extra work, putting in FaceTime with the boss, getting to know the administration and the secretarial employees. That's a guy that gets ahead in life.
