Bird Watching:
IT's FREE, you can do it alone or with someone. You can do it anywhere at any time, You can do it in all seasons of the year. Its rewarding every time you find a new specie. There won't be any competion from other people. You can do it in a deer stand or a bass boat, or on vacation.
You will be surprised at how many different species are in your yard or near your workplace. You can do it with your kids.
Peterson's Field Guide to Eastern Birds will get you started.

Umpiring and refereeing. You can easily make 40-60k just on the side. Not a hobby exactly but it can fund a lot of shite for very little effort especially volleyball

Dealing with the lower IQ portion of the public....pass.

Definitely not model railroading as I’ve come to learn over the years.

I bought a vintage Lionel set from an estate. When I went to pick it up, they were dismantling a huge HO layout and tossing it in a dumpster. The scenery was very well done and there were some nice buildings. They said that no one wanted it. They offered to give me 6-7 boxes of HO trains but I didn't want them.

I could definitely get into model/electric trains if I had space. Sounds like a good hobby.

Or making dioramas, if I had more artistic ability.

Birdwatching

That's what I do while I'm deer hunting and fishing, and yea, it is way cheaper than either of those.
