Wife doesn't want to do NOLA Mardi Gras this year. Looking for something within 2-5 hour driving distance from Ponchatoula. Any ideas?

Nottoway Plantation in White Castle. Take the tour there one day, then drive over to Laura Plantation. Eat at Nottoway both days. For lunch and dinner. Stay at Nottoway, either in the main house or in one of the cottages outside, which are equivalent to a 4-Star Hotel.
Nottoway is the best representation of the Anglo idea of what a true Antebellum Plantation should be. Laura is the best representation of what the Creole Plantation should be.
They're completely different and its all about the difference in cultures.
Oak Alley is also really great if you can squeeze another tour in.

Pass Christian or Bay St. Louis aren't too bad. There are more shops and restaurants in Bay St. Louis though. I don't know the BSL parade schedule, but there is one in Pass Christian that Saturday.
