If I build a custom house, it will be Hurricane, tornado, and zombie proof.

My house will definitely have a moat or be on an island somewhere.

Dig the moat out, use the dirt for fill.

My company builds Blast Shelters for Petro-Chemical plants...we've been known to survive tornadoes as well.

Making a whole house tornado-proof is pretty tough.

Rooms are pretty easy, if you get them anchored right.

Don't see that helping much in an EF4 or EF5 tornado. I mean, it may stand up to the wind but will it stand up to a 140 mph flying Volvo and assorted building materials picked up and tossed by the tornado?

FIFY

Some people in Joplin knew a large wedge Tornado was approaching their houses and attempted to flee in their vehicles to a fire station or other area that had a shelter. Probably not a bad idea if they knew they had at least a few minutes and that their house had no basement or safe room. A direct hit inside the heavy damage path is pretty much going to wipe the slab clean. You might have a chance in the house if you are in the moderate damage path....where as that would be catastrophic in a vehicle. But at least the vehicle is mobile.

If it's a large wedge tornado, I think I'd try to make a run for a stronger building if I knew I had the time. Those are pretty rare on the gulf coast though (wedge tornados...not stronger buildings).

I think people that build storm shelters will get hit by a bus or something.

You can't buy eternal life.

How many stupid people do you know? You are smarter than them, but they are still alive.

Right?
