We do not because half of society thinks this is the date we won the Revolutionary War. Another quarter thinks it has something to do with George Washington or slavery. A sliver thinks this was the day fireworks were invented.

Sadly, many who celebrate today have no clue why we are celebrating. Sad. Proof? Go to any crowded store and just ask people.
