Some times stations need maintenance on towers, transmitters, studio to tower links, master control equipment, etc. Or some times a piece of equipment shits the bed, such as their equipment getting ransomware like a bunch of Sinclair stations had happen to them a few years ago.

Our wonderful cable service in Houma and Laplace, Comcast, lost a fiber in Sorrento and was off cable Tv and internet for 6 hours.

Fun fact for you TV nerds why would a fiber optic cable cut outside of the service area affect local services. The geniuses at the mega corporations decided that instead of keeping the individual headends and all the equipment needed at each location, that they could centralize all the equipment and one or two locations in the country and then feed it back to the local area without a secondary path back to the local headend.
