If you pay attention to the show you see about 90% of the women were sexually abused as a child. I think the men on the show are the lazy asses.

A lot of times, the men suffered horrific traffic accidents, etc that left them immobile for 6-12 months; what I think often goes unsaid is that a number of them become painkiller addicts. Not to a "sucking dick to snort some Oxy" level but just enough to tip the scales to "I'm not going to leave the house for a month".

The women are nearly all victims of abuse with zero self-respect.

I would say the vast majority of male and female participants and their caretakers have a fundamental misunderstanding of how the surgery works. They are in such deep denial that they literally don't understand that their lifestyle is unhealthy, they don't get that eating 10k calories a day is why they became so heavy. So they get the surgery thinking it's a silver bullet to hard reset their body and allow them to continue making horrible choices but now with no consequences.

That show is my guilty pleasure. There’s a subreddit about it that’s good stuff. They all worship Dr. Now. He’s great.

The episodes used to be pretty genuine and have happy endings. Now they cater to the American drama television and showcase some real pieces of work.
