Seiko 5 watches are the least expensive mechanical watches worth buying. They make excellent beaters.

I have had two of the automatic Seiko 5's...accidentally dropped both, and both broke.

Can happen with any mechanical watch whether it costs $50 or $50k. There are some that have better anti-shock protection of the balance but are significantly more expensive.
