I'm able to clear my schedule for the rest of the week if need be and I want to do something to help the people in Texas. I don't have extra $$$ to donate but I have time and the desire to help. Anyone from around here heading that way to help? Need a hand???

As much as I want to, I'm sticking here in BR. I have a feeling we're about to take on more water from the backend of Harvey. Don't want to be stuck in TX if my house decides to take a plunge again

I understand. I'm from BR and all my family is there so I wonder if I should wait to see if I'm needed there but I KNOW I can be of help immediately in TX. I can meet someone in Lafayette or really anywhere if there're headed that way.

I would consider waiting a bit ... I'm sure they'll send a call for help once the water recedes and it's safe to go in. God bless for wanting to help!

I have to work tonight but can get off the rest of the week. I want to do something. I can't just watch this and not do anything.

Call the Red Cross and ask if they need volunteers. There will probably be plenty of places that will need volunteers, especially when they get a handle on how many evacuees they will have and where they will be housed.

I understand that feeling totally.
Get in touch with Operation BBQ Relief, they're on the scene feeding people and always need volunteers to help with the teams. Its a great charity to be involved with.

Thanks ya'll. I will call both of those organizations immediately. I was thinking it would be best to get a companion or 2 and just head that way but ya'll may be right. I'll call them and then update this thread.

I feel you OP. If I didn't have a one year old and nobody to watch him I'd be on my way by now. He was a newborn last year for the floods and I beat myself up pretty bad for not getting over to help

However, the real work will be in the coming months.

Ok, I talked to the Red Cross and they need volunteers for the shelter in Beaumont. I also registered at Operation BBQ Relief and they need help starting tomorrow and will contact me with more details when they have them. I'll keep ya'll updated on here about which one I choose It sounds like I can just show up in Beaumont which I'll do if I don't decide to do the BBQ thing.

If anyone is interested in joining me from the West Monroe or Monroe area, shoot me an email at my user name@gmail.com

I hope to leave tomorrow morning. I have to go to work for a few hours tonight but I'll check be checking me email.

You have to register online for both the Operation BBQ Relief and the Red Cross so be sure to do that ASAP to find out where the help is most needed. Hope to get a partner or 2 or 4 so get in touch tonight if you wanna join me.
