I don’t use self checkout because I don’t want to put Americans out of a job
At the cost of enabling lazy thinkers who don’t realize the likely consequences of mandating increases in minimum wage?
The best thing you can do as a responsible consumer is to choose the most efficient path at the lowest cost.
Do your part to teach basic economics with your purchase decisions.

They could, but they’d be opening themselves up to suits, as you can’t detain & force anyone to a bag search. They would lose business as well. There is a distinction between items being in the open (Sam’s) and in bags (Walmart).
Nothing in the law gives the merchant the right to detain a customer for the purpose of searching a shopping bag unless there is a reasonable suspicion of retail theft.
A customer can refuse to have their bags checked and simply walk out the door past the bag checker. Hopefully, the bag checker has been trained to know that they cannot force anyone to submit to a bag search without cause.

If you consider social issues me placing value on my 4th Amendment rights then go right ahead. Real social issues would be the absence of these rights that you despise so much.

they are concerned that it may have been rung up incorrectly (or falsely) then they need to have cashiers and no self checkout.
They’ve had those people checking receipts at the door way before self checkout was a thing
